¡Llegó NEIK! El cuarto jugadón electrónico de Fun Records
Reconozcámoslo, abrir la bandeja de entrada y revisar los nuevos mails no acostumbra a ser algo especialmente divertido. Por fortuna, a veces, recibimos un correo que, ya desde su remitente y asunto, nos dispara el heartbeat: la elevada probabilidad de que el mensaje traiga alguna propuesta o noticia diferente al spam o a los típicos mensajes randomizables de curro es de tal magnitud que clicamos en el mail para leerlo con la misma ansiedad que ante un titular clickbait del estilo: abre este correo YA si quieres hacer tu vida mucho más divertida. Hace ya un tiempo (indeterminado) recibí un correo desde los headquarters de Fun Records e hice exactamente lo que acabo de describir. No había fallo posible, empezaba otra ronda de diversión electrónica.

Al ver y leer desplegado el correo de Alexis Cabrera, respiré hondo, miré por la ventana y vi cómo, en el parque de enfrente, tras un súbito terremoto y un zumbido ensordecedor, una bandada de globos hinchables anunciaba ante mi estupefacción el nuevo asalto del universo sonoro que está desplegando Fun Records desde su primer release.
El sello, fundado por Alexis Cabrera y Barem, es el playground que ambos artistas argentinos han querido lanzar para dedicarse a producir aquella música que realmente disfrutan produciendo, pinchando y compartiendo. Desde que descubrí el sello hasta que escribí la nota de prensa para el tercer release de Fun Records (FUN 003), firmado por Barem, mi conexión con el sello no ha parado de ascender.
La energía y el simbolismo que tiene el cuarto release de Fun Records representa, quizás incluso mejor que en los anteriores releases, el verdadero helio que inyecta fuerza al juego de Barem y Alexis Cabrera.
El debut de Neik, desde el primer hasta el último track, es tan arriesgado como alucinante. Mientras que la mayoría de djs y productores saturan las redes, y SoundCloud en especial, con cada nuevo set o canción que sacan (en cuanto a los sets, ehem, me incluyo en esta 'mayoría'), Nicolas Neik aguardaba la ocasión oportuna para mostrar sus producciones.
Finalmente, tras varios años de amistad (y afinidad musical) entre Neik, Alexis Cabrera y Barem, los fundadores de Fun Records le convencieron de que merecía la pena poder escuchar su material inédito. El olfato no les falló y Neik, lejos de decepcionarles, resultó ser un productor tan enorme que les faltó tiempo para confirmar que el cuarto release de Fun llevaría su firma.
Debido a la autoexigencia de Neik, MEV puede considerarse un exiquisito e inmejorable debut. Quizás hubiese sido más fácil y llamativo lanzar un release de un artista más conocido pero, entonces, ¿dónde queda la independencia de tener un sello a tu disposición para jugar y apostar todo al beat ganador? Hablando de firmas conocidas, el enorme remix de Mike Shannon que incluye este release en formato vinyl only aporta precisamente la cuadratura del globo. In addition, the EP you're about to listen has a meaningful story behind: it began in Bahia Blanca's dancefloors, three years ago, when Neik, Alexis Cabrera and Barem met and played together for the first time. None of them wanted that time to be the last. In fact, from that moment till today, Barem and Alexis Cabrera lined up with Neik when playing in Argentina and welcomed him to play in Berlin too. Neik's taste and skills increasingly captivated both Fun founders, but he rarely wanted to share his own sounds. Why? Nicolás Neik studio's basis are far away from sharing everything online, his creative strength invigorates massive brainstormings and only outstandingly stops the work in progress finishing a track. Thanks to their mind-alike and tuned friendship, always curious about studio music news, Neik sent to Alexis Cabrera and Barem his first EP ever. The waiting had been worth it was the perfect time to make Fun teams grow with a new player.
Therefore, Fun 004 must be unveiled, and enjoyed, and Mike Shannon’s F9M remix is what grants a last outstanding coup de grâce: ethereal atmosphere, slippery vocals, padded white noise and a feverish bass create an electrifying dialogue with Neik's F9M and the whole EP’s direction.
From EXP to MEV, each Neik's track bends straight minimalist sounds to welcome a new vibrant vision of forward-thinking house. Beats, melodies and rhythm have finally got rid of the 4/4 dancefloor Canon; thanks to MEV we are not going to miss it. By constantly re-editing, redesigning and studying its compositions for several years, Neik's groove attains a misleading complexity that circles and empowers the whole three tracks; surprisingly making us feel as if it was an easy conquest. To exploit its deepness and reach both our mind and body, the beat metamorphoses from ubiquity to intermittence with uprising bursts of intensity.
At the first listening, inner emotions may vary speedily, as if collapsing: stop trying to predict what's next, let yourself go and you'll suddenly find Neik's new way to beat the house. The old manual lows its effect; Neik's beatmap will only be disclosed by intuition and dancing.
